Introducing Ana Rojo-Echeburúa, Head of FIN

On the 19th September, Ana Rojo-Echeburúa was appointed as the Head of FIN. In this role, she will help CFOs, finance directors and boards adopt AI tools in a way that works for their business. She also leads the FIN community, including hands-on sessions and a regular drop-in for finance teams.

Ana has always been passionate about mathematics, technology and using both to solve real-world problems. Her love for problem-solving started with mathematics from a very young age, and it took her through a degree, master's and PhD in mathematics, specialising in differential geometry.

After her PhD, Ana wanted to put those skills to practical use, so she moved into data science and AI systems as a data scientist and mathematical researcher in Edinburgh. Over the decade since, she has gone from building machine learning models hands-on to leading engineering teams in startups and scale-ups, founding her own ventures along the way. She has also collaborated with founders and partnered with businesses across industries to deliver AI initiatives that create real, measurable impact.

Teaching has always run alongside the technical work. Ana started teaching mathematics to students of all ages during her master's, and went on to teach data science and AI tools to professionals, leaders and exec teams. She helps companies understand the skills they need, fill capability gaps, and design training and workshops that solve real business problems. What she enjoys most is taking something that sounds complicated and making it feel simple and practical. That's a big part of what drew her to FIN: finance teams know AI tools can help, but many don't know where to start.

She also loves sharing what she knows through hands-on tutorials, articles and content on AI. Public speaking and social media are natural extensions of that: spaces where she can think out loud, share what she's learning and contribute to a more thoughtful conversation about what AI actually is and how can it actually help.

Outside FIN, Ana advises startups in Scotland, the UAE and Spain. She also hosts The AI Frame Podcast, talking to founders, investors and innovators, and co-founded Science Night Glasgow with April Hill, a free monthly night of talks, demos and games. When she's not doing any of that, she's usually swimming (indoors or outdoors), in the gym, playing music or behind a camera.
